About Community Housing and Shelter Services (CHSS)

Community Housing and Shelter Services was founded in 1981. CHSS has over 40 years experience administering supportive housing programs with City and County local funds, which provides assistance to households experiencing homeless as they transition into permanent housing.

Our staff has a combined 45 years of providing supportive services, knowledge of the eligibility requirements and are very adept at providing exemplary case management for our clients.

CHSS has an active Board of Directors who are responsible for overseeing the organization's activities. Board members meet monthly to discuss and vote on the affairs of the organization.

Our Community

Stanislaus County is a county located in the Central Valley of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 514,453. Surrounding communities include, Turlock, Hughson, Ceres, Keyes, and Patterson.  As the price of housing has increased in the San Francisco Bay Area, many people who work in the southern reaches of the Bay Area have opted for the longer commute and moved to Stanislaus County for the relatively affordable housing.
